PERSONAL LIFE

Dr. Moss and her husband, Carl has three daughters, one who is now with the Lord and seven grandchildren.  When asked about her journey now, Dr. Moss simply says that her whole desire is to preach the Word, teach the Word, and live the Word in a way that ushers people into the presence of God.    

EDUCATION

Dr. Moss holds a Doctor of Ministry in Biblical Preaching from Beeson Divinity of Birmingham, Alabama.  She received her Master of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, New Orleans, LA, with languages, Hebrew, and Greek.  

AFFILIATIONS

The Reverend Dr. Mary Whitley Moss is the seventh and senior pastor of St. Alma Baptist Church, Founder and Executive Director of Louisiana Area Women in Ministry, and Director of The Southeast Regional Biblical Institute. She is an author, published work, PREACH MOSS: WHEN SHE HEARD THE CALL.  

A WOMAN OF FIRSTS

THE FIRST FEMALE MINSTER TO BE:

  • Ordained at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church

  • First female elected to the position of pastor of the traditional St. Alma Baptist Church

  • First female ever installed by the then, 133-year-old Fourth District Baptist Association 

RECIPIENT OF NUMEROUS RECOMMENDATIONS AND HONORS INCLUDING:

  • Establishment of The Dr. Mary Whitley Moss Endowment Scholarship at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary

  • Preacher for the Baptist Council of Preachers of Detroit on the Sea of Galilee in Israel

  • Member of  Mayor Sharon Weston Broome’s inaugural Women Advancement Commission for the City of Baton Rouge

  • Recipient of The MidCity Redevelopment Alliance

  • Recipient of the Reverend Mary E. Moody Lifetime Achievement Medal of Honor

  • Recipient of The Chancellor’s Legacy Award presented by Wayland Baptist Theological Seminary in recognition of exemplified leadership and services perseverance of the Baptist faith and witness
